Congratulations on taking the next step on your career to become a security officer!
The process is not difficult, but it does require much patience on details.
Please see the outlined process below:
Before you start the application, you will NEED a printer, a debit/credit card, and stable online access. Make sure you have already received your Security Officer Training Certificates Level 2 and 3.
• Go online and fill out the application for Commissioned Security Officer Licensure Application
During the application process, you will be asked for the company license number (please input the company for which you will be employed with as a Security Officer). Fill out the application in its entirety or the application will not be processed by DPS. It will also ask if you want to have a certification to teach as well, you can opt for this or not. It does not hurt your application either way.
Once you get to the section where you review a summary of all that you entered, please print that page for your confirmation of your online application.
Payment process: To speed up the process, please pay via Debit/Credit. Your total for Commissioned Security Application $55.00 but if this is your first application to the Private Security Bureau, you will additionally need to add the $25 FBI Fingerprint Charge for a total of $80.
Print your payment confirmation page and print your “Receipt for Registration/Commission Application”. Although during the application it asked for input of e-mails to submit the application to (Don't forget to send it to your contact at the security company you are working with), the system does not always send the e-mail to that addresses listed. Do not rely solely on the e-mail confirmation because your Receipt page is your entire application. The 3rd printed page is essential as it requires the applicant’s signature (your own) and the finalization of the Owner or Manager’s signature (from the security company you will be working with).
Once you proceed to the Fingerprints section, Click on the State of Texas and Online Scheduling. The process may ask you again for your company license number and for your Trace number that is located on the 3rd printed page of your Receipt from your application (1st box on the table with a mixture of numbers and letters). Next you will look for the area offering fingerprints closest to your convenience via the Texas Map or by entering your zip code. The online system will then populate the earliest appointment available in your area: make sure you check all options when you make your appointment by pressing the next page tabs on the bottom of the list of offerings. Once you select a time, it will ask if you would like your own Background Information for $9.99. This is not to be confused with the cost for fingerprinting that is also $9.99 with taxes a little over $10.00. Please print out your payment receipt. Additionally download and print your FAST Pass because that is your only confirmation of the appointment you have made with the Fingerprint location approved by DPS. You will need to present the FAST PASS at your appointment and once the representative that has helped you and confirmed your Fingerprints on location, they will hand you back the page with a signature. Please ensure it is signed by the representative as the signed confirmation will need to be sent to the TX DPS-PSB once you have made a copy for your records (Note: Hard copy Finger Print cards are no longer accepted by the Private Security Bureau).
Once you have gone through the online process, you will need to fill out the ONLINE ORIGINAL COMMISSION APPLICATION BACKGROUND HISTORY QUESTIONNAIRE.
After the process of the training, the application, and the fingerprint appointment; you will have the following documents:
Please scan and send a copy of all paperwork to the company you will be hired with for Security Services (Keep a copy for your own records). The sent paperwork is to be signed by the Security Services Company's Owner/Manager and sent to:

Secured copies of your application and supplemental forms will be kept at the Security Company’s location per DPS regulations for future audits.
